Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 1, 2026
This policy describes how Canadian Legacy ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects information gathered through cdnlegacy.ca. It's a general-purpose policy, not legal advice, and hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer. If you have questions about how it applies to a specific situation, please consult a legal professional familiar with Canadian privacy law.
Who We Are
Canadian Legacy is a small Canadian workshop based in Oakville, Ontario, that designs and builds handcrafted wood and metal products. You can reach us at [email protected] or through our contact page.
Information We Collect
We only collect information you choose to give us:
- Contact form. When you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email address, subject, and message so we can respond to your inquiry. This information is sent directly to our email inbox and is not stored in a database on our website.
- Future orders. Our online store is not yet accepting orders. When checkout is enabled, purchases will be processed through Snipcart, a third-party e-commerce provider, which will collect the information needed to fulfill an order — such as your name, shipping address, email, and payment details. Snipcart handles that information under its own privacy policy, and we do not directly receive or store your payment details.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. Google Analytics automatically collects information such as your approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type, pages visited, and how you arrived at our site. This data is aggregated and used to understand site traffic; it is not used to personally identify you.
- Product reviews. When you submit a review, we collect your name, star rating, review text, and an optional email address and photo. Reviews are held for our approval before appearing on the site. If you provide an email address, we use it only to check for a Gravatar (a globally recognized avatar linked to your email) to display next to your review — your email address itself is never published or stored in a way visitors can see.
- Launch email signup. If you sign up to be notified when we launch, we collect your email address so we can send you that one-time (or occasional) update. We do not share this list with third parties, and you can ask us to remove your email at any time by contacting us.
We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
How We Use Information
We use the information you provide to:
- Respond to messages sent through the contact form
- Process and fulfill orders, once online ordering is available
- Maintain the security and normal operation of our website
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies on your device to distinguish visitors and measure site usage. Some other third-party services we rely on may also use cookies or similar technology as part of their normal operation — for example, Snipcart may use cookies to keep track of items in a shopping cart once checkout is enabled. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect how some parts of the site function.
Third-Party Services
Our website relies on a small number of third-party services to operate:
- Google Analytics — measures website traffic and usage. Google's use of data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — provides DNS, content delivery, and security for our website.
- Namecheap — our web hosting provider.
- Snipcart — will process orders and payments once our online store is active.
- Google Fonts & Font Awesome — load fonts and icons used on our website.
- Gravatar — if a reviewer provides an email address, we send a one-way hash of it (not the address itself) to Gravatar to check for a matching profile photo. Gravatar's use of data is governed by Automattic's Privacy Policy.
Each of these providers may process limited technical data (such as IP address) as part of delivering their service. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies for details.
Data Retention
Contact form submissions are kept only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry and are not stored in a website database. Order information, once online ordering is active, will be retained only as long as needed to fulfill orders and meet legal or accounting obligations. Google Analytics data is retained according to Google's own retention settings.
Your Rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, request corrections, or request that it be deleted. To make a request, contact us at [email protected].
You can also opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by using your browser's cookie or "Do Not Track" settings.
Children's Privacy
Our website and products are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example as our online store becomes active. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
